Makin Music 2013

This past weekend we loaded up and headed to Tennessee to see Michael at school.  My mom, sister-in-law and one of my nephews were able to go with us.  It was Makin Music weekend so we all wanted to go see the show.  Makin Music is a production where all the social groups perform 7 minute skits and compete against each other.  It is always a really good show (put on completely by the students) and we had been looking forward to it for a while.  The only bad thing about the weekend, is that Michael hardly has any free time to visit since there are shows on Friday night and two on Saturday.  We like going to the Saturday night show because that is when they announce the winners in all the different categories.

We left for our journey as soon as Courtney got out of school at 12:30.  It normally takes us around 7 hours to get there but the traffic was horrible!!  It was a 10 hour trip!!  We had two different traffic delays - one on I30 and another (that was a two hour delay) on I40 between Little Rock and Memphis.  It was around 10:30 when we finally made it to our hotel.  We were tired!

Rod just hung out in the middle of the interstate during our traffic delay.  He walked up and down the line of vehicles and made friends with a truck driver or two.
For all Courtney knew, it only took us an hour or two to get from Blossom, TX to Jackson, TN
We stopped in Forrest City, AR and ate at the Ole Sawmill Cafe.  They had a seafood buffet so Rod was in heaven!
This isn't a very good picture, but it was very cool driving over the Mississippi River bridge and seeing Memphis at night
On Saturday morning we all piled in Rod's truck to go see Michael and take him to breakfast before he got busy with Makin Music
Michael was a very tired guy!  He had a super busy week with rehearsals and shows, etc.
Seth wanted to see Michael's dorm room, so Becky and I waited downstairs while they went up.
After Michael had to leave us, we went back to Jackson.  We ate lunch at Panda Express and did some shopping.
Me and my girl making a Starbucks run

I'm not sure if Seth realizes it, but I am a pretty cool aunt.
We ate supper at O'Charley's, one of our favorite places to eat in Jackson before heading back to Henderson to see the show
We lined up with others outside while waiting on the different groups to walk in
I stole these pictures off of Michael's Facebook page.  The theme of their skit was "No Strings Attached" and they dressed as puppets

After the show we headed back to the hotel and Michael came and stayed with us as soon as he wrapped up with the final Makin Music stuff.  We got up EARLY Sunday morning and went to the 8am service.  Then we took Michael to eat breakfast before we started home.
Michael went back to his dorm to catch up on his sleep.  He could barely hold his eyes open.
Our trip home went much better than the trip up there.  It only took us 7 hours and that was with stopping for gas, food and bathroom breaks.  It was a fast, furious and FUN weekend! So glad my mom, Becky and Seth were able to go :)
