Pig Farming

After a 1 year hiatus, we are back in the pig farming business. Last year, neither of the kids showed a pig. It was Michael's senior year, and he was busy with other things - not to mention we really didn't have a place to keep one. This year, some friends of ours have a daughter who is showing a pig, so Courtney is keeping her pig with Erin's pig. It really works out better this way, since pigs do not like to be alone. Courtney is really excited to be back in the pig farming spotlight, but not quite as much as Michael and Rod! Michael did really well when he showed pigs.....he showed a total of 7 years - and not only showed pigs in the Lamar County Livestock show, but the Texas State Fair and the San Antonio Livestock shows as well. And Courtney has done well with her pigs that she has showed in the past too. This afternoon, I tagged along to go visit the pigs - I had only seen them once before. They have grown a lot in just 1 month! And they will be around 175lbs by the show in April.

In the past, our pigs have always LOVED marshmallows. And it made it so easy to lead them around with marshmallows. But not these pigs. So Courtney and Erin went and bought the pigs some Oreos. Surely they would like them, right? Nope. These pigs don't like anything but their feed. Here is Court trying to feed Mary Katherine an Oreo. She wouldn't even try it.
